Dear Moderator,
We were collecting demographic/mortality records in one of populous settings or urban town. However, we have come to realize that mortality entry box has only 20 rows(at the individual level)but we have more family members per HH to add into the rows. How do insert rows inside the small entry box?
Your advise is highly valuable in this regard.
Best regards, Ash
September 2, 2015 at 9:04 pm #1762As you have correctly stated, in the top left section of the ‘Death Rates-Data Entry Individual Level’ tab, there are 20 rows (1 row per individual) that represent 1 household. On the bottom half of the screen is the ‘Data of all households’ (1 household per row) section. As you fill in data in the top left section, the information is automatically recorded below.
If there are more than 20 people in a household (based on your survey definition), for example, let’s say Cluster 1, Team 2, HH 1 has 25 individuals you can enter the data for the first 20 individuals in the top left section of the ‘Death Rates-Data Entry Individual Level’ tab. Next, you can manually select the next row on the ‘Data for all households’ section on the bottom half of the screen and the individual HH section in the top left will reset. In this section you can enter the remaining 5 individuals except you would write it as HH2 (Cluster 1, Team 2, HH 2) and make a note of this on your questionnaire that HH1 and HH2 are the same HH.
September 8, 2015 at 10:07 am #1776Hi there,
Making the correction or remark note on the raw data is fine, however, are the two subsequent entries analyzed differently rather than for a single households only. In that case, it might distort the result as the two are captured differently.
Your advice is highly appreciated and look forward to receiving it very soon.
Best, Ash
September 10, 2015 at 1:25 pm #1777This will not have any effect on the Crude Death Rate or Under 5 Death Rate. Some of the demographic information will be affected, but quite minimally. If there are a significant number of HHs with over 20 individuals in your survey then this can be mentioned in the report.
October 5, 2015 at 10:02 am #1828Dear SMART team,
I am having an almost similar challenge with the ENA software entering death records. We have stationed 8 lap tops and centrally entering data as double entry exercise but two of the lap tops refused to calculate the death rate. In fact, most of the time the mortality summary at HH box do not work while mortality result at the individual level is being calculated.
Is there any trouble shooting or software program related advice that you can share with me to improve the inconsistency reading and malfunctioning of either of the death records analysis box would be highly appreciated.
I look forward to receiving guidance on the above point at the earliest.
Best regards, Ash
October 6, 2015 at 12:50 pm #1832Mortality entry and analysis have only two options; data entry individual level and data entry household level. Only one option can be applied at a time for a given survey. In your case data entry was done at Individual level, therefore, the results are analyzed at individual level (Results Individual Level).
To ensure consistency with results of a single survey using different laptops, ensure you select similar age intervals upon confirmation in similarity of double data entry. We select 5 years interval to obtain U5 Death Rate (0-4 Years) while Overall analysis denotes CDR. For challenges with ENA, you could try the analysis using different laptops. Some issues could arise from settings and compatibility. Take note of any error message and share.
October 6, 2015 at 5:12 pm #1833Hi there,
Thanks for the response.
But the issue is we are doing entry both at the individual and at the HH box. Reason being the individual analyze only CMR and not the U5MR. But entry and analysis at HH would allow you to get both CMR and U5MR.
All the configuration and selection of age bands being similar we noticed two of the lap tops individual analysis is not working while the analysis at HH is okay.
Another notice is that when you try to merge two or more surveys for one or use weighted analysis, the entry at the individual level is lost while the entry and analysis at HH box is intact.
I would appreciate speedy guidance on the above two at your earliest time possible.
Thanks for your support and time in advance.
Best, Ash
October 7, 2015 at 1:14 pm #1834The mortality data entry and analysis is dependent on the way mortality data was collected.
The options are Individual Level and Household Level Data entry. If in your case you collected data at Individual level, then it follows that data entry and analysis should be done at Individual level.
Whichever option you use to collect, enter and analyze mortality data, you should be able to obtain both U5MR and CMR. To obtain U5MR with Individual level entry, you need to select 5 years interval and attain the Results Individual Entry against 0-4 Years.
It would be helpful to read the ENA Software Manual (P 47-56) accessible at https://smartmethodology.org/survey-planning-tools/smart-emergency-nutrition-assessment/
The above applies when merging files as well; it is only possible to merge two different files if they share similarity in data collection/entry method applied.
The non-responsiveness on the two laptops could be due to settings, options and compatibility; the above guide will be of help. -
