    Hi,
in a context where houses are not well organized, can we use EPI modified method? According to me we should do simple or systematic random sampling in any context and modified EPI is not used anymore or am I wrong?
    thanks

In a context where households are not well organized it is recommended to use simple random sampling. If the cluster is large it can be broken down first by implementing segmentation (PPS). SMART does not recommend to use the modified EPI method.

    Hi!
    Sorry me again :).
Do you have any article, document explaning the the reason (why no EPI-modified anymore). I know it is because it is more biais. But if you have a paper on that, it would be great :).

Moreover do you know when SMART methodology will be updated? (or maybe I don’t have the last version? 2006? where EPI-modified it is still in it)
    Many thanks

Kindly refer to the Sampling Methods and Sample Size for the SMART Methodology June 2012 (pg.31,32) which refers to using the Modified EPI method only as a last resort as well as some of the limitations. It can found at the following link:

    https://smartmethodology.org/survey-planning-tools/smart-capacity-building-toolbox/

Manager-Complementary Tools and Resources-Handouts-A_Manuals, Case Study-A2 Sampling for SMART.

If other users know of any other documents/papers discouraging the use of the Modified EPI Method kindly post the link on this thread.
